Weekending :: Camping

 

Muggy, humid, quiet, smoky, sticky, peaceful, chilly, late... we cleared, we camped, and we all ended up back in the house by the end of the night, though Audrey and Kyle gave it their best try. It was a good trial run for a real camping trip some day, aaaaaand let's just say we got our fill and are satisfied for the moment.

It was a fun weekend project, though.

May we all wake up to the weekend with the anticipation of a tweenager with her own coffee setup, and may we also all have the patience needed to tackle all the weekend things (like what's needed with said non-morning person tweenager and Mama is trying to make coffee at the same time).

Weekending

This weekend, we...

...kicked off that weekend feeling a little early with a late Thursday night Tae Kwon-Do practice, wherein Audrey beat out all her fellows at a plank challenge and a balance challenge, then learned she'll be grading for her green belt in less than two weeks... talk about a happy girl!
...made cheesecake, blueberry coffee cake, oatmeal beer bread, and sugar cookies, because carbs.
...hosted Grammy, Gramps, and Aunt KK, who greeted us right after school let out on Friday and stayed through a movie, a tied Saturday morning soccer game, and some weekend shoe shopping for a girl who seemed to outgrow 90% of her shoes over night.
...kept windows open every day!
...spent a lot of time outside planting seeds, pulling weeds, playing with Sukaboo, and discovering large quantities of frog eggs.
...had to replace not one, not two, but three chirping smoke alarm batteries, all within a couple hours of each other, all after bed time (of course), and all with pirated 9-volts because our battery stash is sorely lacking, apparently.

This weekend flew by with that beginning-of-spring mania and energy that everything seems to be feeling right now. Buds are blooming, grass is greening, pets are shedding and we're all struggling to sit still through the responsible parts of our days... but oh when the weekend comes back again...!

Weekending

This weekend saw some freakishly warm weather for about a day and a half, so we all rushed outside to take full advantage- we got our lit trees up in the front, we got the chicken coop cleaned out and fortified for winter (heated waterer, extra hay, breezeways closed up) and discovered in the process that they've suddenly started laying again! We also had the soccer team back out to play and to distribute their trophies because they took second place in their league for the fall season (so proud of Hen!). There was also some bee feeding, some Suka games, some grilling, and an exceptionally beautiful sunset.

Not bad for the only weekend with no plans in December.

So... only one solid week left before Christmas, huh? Better stop playing around and get back to work! Happy Monday!

Weekending

This weekend we managed a super-hot soccer game, a trip to Daddy's office to hang up his new art, a cookout with friends, banana pancakes, a movie, and even a little spare time for harvest moon-gazing, reading, and cookie-baking. It flew by, but it was a good one.

Weekending

This weekend we spent huge, vast, wonderful numbers of hours outside in our woods, working to cut back the scrub. We made better progress this time than any other time we've gone at it, and even found time to have lunch and dinner around the fire pit. Suka behaved, the kids behaved, we found mossy treasures and special rocks and a (good) snake, and then on Sunday night we came in early- chilled and smoky- took early showers, and read Harry Potter until bedtime. I couldn't have crafted a better weekend if I tried.

Weekending

This weekend saw...

...lots of scrambled eggs, some time outside with our creatures and garden, a bit of a stormy nap time, waaaaaaaaay too much screen time (in my opinion, anyway), a dinner on the grill, a pre-bath romp in the thick grass over the lateral lines (and a couple very dirty bathtubs afterwards!), and a bed time a little later than what should become our habit on school nights. Of course mixed in with all that was grocery shopping, laundry, chores, and other things that don't make for very good photos or a very good story. But all in all, it was a job well done, this weekending thing we do.
