Return of the Sidewalk Chalk

Our kids have had a long-standing love affair with sidewalk chalk, pretty much since they were old enough to grasp it. For almost every season and occasion there is time spent on the driveway, sidewalk, or big rocks in the yard decorating and drawing.

This weekend I stumbled upon the remnants of the last box of chalk- damp, broken, and worn down to numbs- stashed in a shady spot next to a boulder sporting hieroglyphs of some kind of animal with lots and lots of legs. I'm pretty sure it's been over a year... maybe even two?... since we freshened up our stash. It was about time for a new supply.

There are those who get positively giddy over a fresh box of crayons... my kids? They practically salivate over a fresh box of chalk. And who can blame them? Look at all those colors!

Their first project was apparently to draw Leeloo a comfy place to lay... which lay she did, in all her fresh-from-a-dip-in-the-pond glory, effectively wiping away whatever masterpiece was made for her. Good thing there's enough chalk left for a second go at it!

Yay for the return of the sidewalk chalk, and the happy hours it will fill this summer!
